Bugs in coconut

Recommended Posts

Hello, I was recently gifted this coconut palm for Christmas, I've noticed today these tiny beetle looking bugs crawling out of the actual coconut itself. Please can anyone advise on how to get rid of them?

This is a pineapple beetle or Urophorus humeralis. How many do you see? What you can do is to manually pick them off or to use a pesticide or you can create insect traps.

So far I have picked off around 9 but if I blow in the crack in the coconut more come out so I'm expecting there's alot more within the nut itself. I have provanto insect spray, should I spray it down the crack? I just don't want to risk damaging the plant?

I wouldn’t spray directly into the crack, I would spray around the whole nut. Some into the crack is fine.

When you have a day over 10°C, drag the palm outside and douse with insecticide.
