In central Florida here. Noticed this palm started declining back in May 2023. All fronds were completely brown by November.

I pushed the tree over yesterday. It folded over near the base. The inside was slightly hollow, very moist, smelled musty (like a moldy bathroom), and had a mix of white and black fibers. The outside of the palm was very soft and could be crushed and pulled off very easily. The dead fronds could be pulled out of the top with very little effort.

 

My kid thinks there was a conch on it that they stomped on, but I can't be sure as they have a very vivid imagination that can't always be trusted 😆.

 

I'm trying determine the cause so I can figure it what to replace it with.

 

I can take more pictures of it'd help.
