One of my suggestions is going to be McCarty Hall up in Gainesville, FL:

https://www.palmtalk.org/forum/topic/41798-mccarty-hall-palm-garden-at-the-university-of-florida-update-2008-2014-some-before-and-after-pics/

If they continue to improve it, Carrollwood Village Park in Tampa might be worth a visit at some point as well.

A site in Sanford that might be worth a visit is the Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens.  Haven't been there yet myself.

An update for the April 6th CFPACS meeting from the hosts:

Lutz, Florida is north of Tampa in Pasco County.  It has been about 6 years since  we last met at the Langley Garden.

We have added some new planting beds with more cycads and other tropicals. The garden has over 300 palms and cycads to date and has been established for 35 years.

We are planning on planting a Zamia variegata that we got from our late friend and longtime editor John Kennedy, in remembrance of him.  What a wonderful  person  he was.

We are also going to be giving away at least 5 palms and cycads as door prizes.

A general meet and greet, followed by a partial tour of the garden, then lunch and a follow up tour to finish the garden.  Afterwards we will have the auction and general sale as usual.

We really hope you are able to make it to the meeting.

- Ted and Nancy Langley

This will be my first time there since I missed the meeting 6 years ago.  Judging by the number of RSVPs, both familiar faces and new ones, this is going to be a really good meeting.  Can't wait.

It was great to see so many people at a very well attended meeting with great food and a wonderful tour.  The sales, raffles, and auction gave everyone ample opportunity to fill out their gardens with palms, cycads, orchids, and bromeliads.

A special shout out to PalmTalk members @Plantking165 @Satakentian @howfam @SW_FL_Palms @SubTropicRay @cycadjungle @Keith N Tampa (ex SoJax) @chuckg @D. Morrowii @Reeverse @PalmJuan @Phil Stager and @kinzyjr for making the meeting fun, entertaining, and informative.  If we missed you, feel free to chime in.

The Summer meeting is being planned now.  As the details get nailed down, we'll send out an email communication to the membership.

It has taken a while to get things changed/posted on the website, and that process is still ongoing.  These forums and our Facebook page provide us with avenues to communicate with our members and potential members without intervention from a webmaster or concerns over hosting.  Some of the documents our members look forward to reading have not been posted due to web hosting changes, decisions about what to do with our quarterly publication (The Palmateer), and our general direction forward in regard to our digital presence and member communication.

Unfortunately, it has been a calendar year of searching for an individual to take the helm of Editor, but our candidate search has proven unsuccessful.  Our current board members are stretched to the max in terms of their responsibilities and obligations.  As such, our quarterly will, in all probability, cease publication in terms of being a dedicated quarterly.  Our best path forward under the circumstances involves continuing to publish information online, with a focus more inline with the age of social media and cloud computing.

As such, our Secretary wrote a recap of this meeting that had not been communicated to members.  You can read the recap and photos in PDF form using this link:

2024 Spring Meeting Recap

A special thank you for all of our members, Facebook followers, and contributors as we move forward.  Look for an opportunity to help preserve our past in the near future.

Shifting over to a content management system, such as WordPress,  is one solution that can allow multiple contributors without using a webmaster.  If this is something you'd like to discuss further message me or give me a call.  I also have hosting available as I host my own and websites for other businesses and one not for profit.
