Perpetually Red Leaf On This Chambeyronia (almost three months now!)

I’m wondering when this leaf will be green. It emerged in mid November and here we are the second week of February and it’s still red! Getting close to three months! This is a young C. macrocarpa.

This Flamethrower is different than my other eleven. It holds red fronds much longer. Two and a half to three weeks in the summer versus one to one and a half for the others and up to three months in winter versus three weeks for the others.

You have a breeder Jim.   When it eventually produces seed, you will want to germinate them and see if it passes on this proclivity.  Unfortunately that will require a lot of patience.

If you are not happy with this palm, Jim... then I would be OK with taking this problem out of your garden.

Mine is in near full sun and holds the color for about a week tops . In the summer , less. I have had it for over twenty years and still no seed. It has produced inflorescence but it doesn't amount to much.

Likely a very long time. None of my trunking Chambies have even tried to flower yet.

they can start fruiting with 1.5m of trunk.
