One of the few palm species I can always count on to yellow up over the winter,no matter what I do. 🤷‍♂️

Thankfully, the fronds DO green back up again, once the heat rolls back in...

Beautiful, must be old to have reached that size. I have observed the same yellowing and greening based on temperature in several species of palms. They are all on the more tropical end of the spectrum. Warm zone 10.

Are you saying that yellow leaves can green back up or new leaves are green?

On this particular species, the same fronds that yellow up over the winter, actually DO green up again, when temperatures warm up.

Even some pine trees do that here if the winter is especially cold.

Good sized cowellii. I'm envious. I could not get this species to survive for me long term.

This is one of the very few species that actually seems to do better under desert conditions than it does in Florida. Not sure if our different soils are a factor, but if I had to guess, I think it prefers drier conditions than what Florida can provide. Lots of people in Florida have tried growing it, with seemingly very few successes overall. 🤔

I collected and grew these from seed, Cuba trip, 2014.
