Everyone:
 
I am delighted to announce that we are having our first meeting in Los Angeles County in about four years.
 
Our March 16, 2024 meeting will be at the home and garden of Sergio at 13811 Philadelphia Street, Whittier CA 90601.  This will be the third time we have visited Sergio's garden, and we were long overdue. Sergio started the garden back in 2008 and had it fully planted out by 2010. Overall, there's 150 palms and 50 cycads, for a real glorious jungle, plus a big palapa by the waterfall pool, and a palapa in the pool. A true Palm-Themed Scream Dream. The majority of Sergio's plants were started from 5 gallon size or larger. Species include: Ptychosperma "Paddle Leaf"; Chrysalidocarpus (Dypsis) "Tri Bear"; C. pembana X decaryi hybrid; various Licualas species; a red Latania (!);C. leptocheilos (Teddy Bear); Brahea clara; Psuedophoenix sargentii; C. ambositrae; C. lastelliana (8 foot leaves!!!); Beccariophoenix alfredii; Cyphophoenix nucele; Berretiokentia hapala.  PLUS towering Roystoneas. Plus Cycads, including Sergio's prized Encephalartos whitelockiana (12 foot long fronds!), kusambo, and lemanii. Plus Plumerias all over. It's every bit as spectacular as it sounds; come see for yourself! 
 
NOTE: A number of members have asked why it has taken so long to have a meeting in LA county, now that Covid 19 is mostly behind us. While LA County officials did their best to try to contain the pandemic, their task was made a lot harder by the sheer size of the county and its population. San Diego and Orange Counties were much better able to assure relatively early on that we could schedule and hold a meeting without having to worry about eleventh-hour official orders cancelling it for public health reasons. We are grateful for your understanding and support, and look forward to more LA County meetings and seeing palm lovers there!
 
POTLUCK LUNCH
 
We'll be having a potluck lunch with chicken provided AND chicken pozole cooked up by our hosts!  You can still, as always, bring your favorite dish to share; meat, vegetables, dessert, or any combination -- all greatly appreciated. Make it yourself or buy and bring it - if you like it, we will too! If it's grandma's favorite recipe, so much the better. We don't care if your grandma was from Seoul, Sao Paulo, Saskatoon or San Antonio, bring it and we'll eat it. Come feast on food, and the joint joys of palms and good fellowship on a spring day, back in LA County again.  
 
AUCTION
There will be an auction at this meeting. Donors have a choice of donating 100% of the proceeds to the PSSC (we appreciate that!) or 50% (we appreciate that, too!) The focus is on rare palms, in 1 to 5 gallon containers, though larger ones will be accepted. Also good are nice palm-themed objects d'art, and other exotic plants, including but not limited to, bromeliads, fancy Ficus, etc. We accept credit cards, checks, and good old cash, though, due to expenses relating to credit card transactions, we greatly appreciate cash and checks, if possible.
 
 While the worst of the Covid 19 nightmare appears to be behind us, we're still feeling the effects of the forced closure of auctions and their revenue. Your participation by donating and buying will help immensely. If you have a question about a possible donation, contact DoomsDave via PM.
 
 Since we have a limited time in which to conduct the auction, we ask that donors provide plants that will realistically sell for at least $20. Please no Washingtonias, Phoenix canariensis, etc. We also appreciate liners and "freebie" plants as well for the plant raffle.

9:30 AM: Board of Directors Meeting 
10:45 AM: General Members arrive at Sergio's garden and tour it.
12:30 PM: Potluck lunch. Tables and chairs will be available - eat up!
1:00 PM: Begin General Meeting. Announcements, Auction and Raffle
