Zamia angustifolia female cone receptivity

Recommended Posts

I have never attempted to pollinate any of my Zamias before.   This Zamia angustifolia has coned for several years now.  I noticed the top is cracked open exposing seeds and wonder if this genus opens when receptive like Encephalartos?  The larger cone is an old one that just hasn't fallen off yet.  All my male Zamia's are holding old cones that are shriveling up and have long since shed their pollen, so I won't be trying to pollinate this cone anyway.  While Encephalartos will crack open I have never seen one open this wide when receptive.
