Re-fertilizing palms after using weak organic fertilizer?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have a couple windmill and a needle palm saplings (maybe 3 to 5 years) which overwintered, and I fertilized them about a month ago at the beginning of April with Jobe's organic. I had someone tell me that organic fertilizers may not be enough for young plants, and I ended up buying Osmocote Plus.

Is it too soon to fertilize with the Osmocote? I don't want to risk burning the plants, but I also want to make sure they have enough nutrients going into Summer.

Are they in pots or in the ground?

Skip the Jobe's - I tried the spikes; those things are useless. Go with timed release pelletized fertilizer with micronutrients and formulated for trees/palms.

Osmocote Plus is fine to use on them now on pots or even outdoors.

Agree. I've had good success with Osmocote Plus for my trachycarpus/windmill palms.
