I planted 2 juvenile foxtail palms a year ago. One seems to be doing great, and the other I think is on its deathbed. I’m new to palms - following the protocol the company I bought them from told me for watering. I have no irrigation system so I water by hand around the base with a hose when soil seems dry. I’m in Florida, 10b. The Foxtail with problems had a frozen spike for about 6 months, and finally opened it up a week ago. It looked great at the time. A couple days later, all the fronds turned dark reddish brown seemingly out of nowhere. I thought maybe lethal bronzing?? Checked the trunk, it was extremely soft and squishy. Then I went to remove the lowermost dead frond and beneath the husk (not sure correct term) there was a tear in the trunk and a bunch of water and pill bugs came pouring out. No smell. Definitely water and not sap. Can anyone help me identify what may have happened? Do I need to quickly remove this palm so nothing spreads to my other, happy one? Thanks!!
