Recommended Posts

Hello, I bought a 24 dollar dwarf date palm from Lowe’s and they had Christmas palms spindle palms sago palms bananas and majesty palms but I settled on a date because I like the trunks. Anyways, here is the tree but I am worried what are these brown trips or orange tips? Thank you and how could I possible prevent this?IMG_0958.thumb.jpeg.f2c0ec61d0356c57d1a9473f800faed0.jpegIMG_0956.thumb.jpeg.58bcbeb66d0ea072b44b154553311d20.jpegIMG_0957.thumb.jpeg.4d1fa2ec65d905ccb27a0f518ba828ff.jpeg

Many of the plants are shade-grown so don't place it out in 10 hours of direct sun.

It will get direct sun from 8:30ish to 2:00ish. I can always acclimate it. In the Lowe’s it was sitting in full sun

What is done cannot be reversed.

Palm looks good overall to me. Don’t sweat the small stuff. If the brown leaf tips bother you too much, snip them off with a sharp pair of scissors. You will never grow a perfect palm. Give it a warm, sunny summer so it can grow and prepare for a long winter in a dark, dry, chilly house.

I have a couple of these palms. Grabted I am in zone 9b. It is probably just stress from the enviorment change. Most of the big box store plants are nursery babies and not to mention those stores can nuke every plant, tree, cactus, succulent everything with an insane amount of water. Then if they die the store throws it in their markdown expense and vendors bring more of them... Unfortunately, the palm cannot heal the brown tips but treat it well and new fronds will grow. It's not a sign of doom. Good luck and be well.
