Just had my Parajubaea sunkha flower again at the start of winter. There are 6 flower spathes behind this one so maybe, just maybe I’ll have some male flowers and female flowers open at the same time with viable seed as the result.

I think you promised me one of these when you still lived in Perth. They are such an attractive species but I no longer have the room for one. How long has this one been in the ground ?

A great looking specimen Tyrone. Have you tried harvesting the male flowers, processing the pollen, and dusting the female flowers?

For those of you that frequent Facebook, I’ve set up a group called “Pommy palms”, where many of the palms I’ve seen since emigrating to Australia have been documented. If you wish to be a member, copy and paste “Pommy palms” into Facebook to view the page and click “Join group”.

This one has been in the ground ten years from a wispy little thing. I didn’t have any planted in the ground in Perth. I ran out of room.

No. I’m going to see if it can sort of sync it by itself. My Butias put out multiple flushes and they tend to get it right. However if this one can’t do it, I may have to save the male pollen and do it manually for it.

Happy to process the male flowers for you if you decide to go down that path. Simply cut them off below the lowest female flower and post them to me. I have all the necessary equipment to extract the pollen and send it back to you vacuum packed.

Two inflorescences open now and another spathe coming out, so 8 in total.
