This diminutive Syagrus is planted at the NW corner of our Garden Lot. It is one of many palms struggling with the aftermath of Hurricane Ian and I don't know if it will ultimately survive. However, it was unfazed by the fusarium wilt that wiped out my queens and mules in 2016/17.  I have no idea what species or hybrid it is but it puts out enormous 1.5+" fruit. I hope to germinate some of them. Does anyone have some ideas what this palm might be?

I have no idea what it might be, but it does have appeal. I think Amara has large seeds like that. Maybe it’s cross with that? Neat little palm anyway.

Amara fruits are indeed large like that but they are orange when ripe like queens.  To me the fruits look more like those of Syagrus picrophylla.

Fruits do look very similar to S. picrophylla.

For those of you that frequent Facebook, I’ve set up a group called “Pommy palms”, where many of the palms I’ve seen since emigrating to Australia have been documented. If you wish to be a member, copy and paste “Pommy palms” into Facebook to view the page and click “Join group”.

I think you all might be right. I have a larger S picrophylla that is also iffy two years after Ian. It hasn’t flowered in the past two years. Thanks

Here’s a few picrophylla I germinated a few some months back so if you do germinate some of your seeds here’s what the seedlings should look like use a deep container for germinating them these ones hit the bottom of germinating bed good luck

Thanks. I've found the less common Syagrus are not nearly as prolific as the invasive queen. So far, no luck with S picrophylla but I'm going to give a few of my latest seeds a go.

Meg, this looks just like my S. oleracea and seems consistent with photos on Palmpedia.
