Chrysalidocarpus Ifanadianae - showing purple coloring

Anyone growing Chrysalidocarpus ifanadianae?  Mine is getting some size and showing some purple coloring on the crown. The only other Chrysalidocarpus that I’ve seen with purple coloring is Sp. Metallic Ovobontsira.

I have 2, but they are still small. Planted in January 2019 from 1-gallon pots, the fronds are getting taller, but a very long way from forming a trunk. I'll take a closer look later today.

So Kim, what is a long way off from trunking on the east side of the Big Island?  Next year or a year and a half?😄🤣😂

I was just looking at this palm on Palm Pedia and there are some habitat photos you took on there or mature palms that show the purple coloring on the crowns. Very excited to be growing this one.

I wish I would have hiked to see these when driving through Ifanadianae.   I was so tired that day after a long hike earlier so I stayed with the driver while Len trudged off into the jungle to see these.

A couple pics from today’s morning garden walk. Mowing the grass today!  This is 2 weeks of grass growth here on the Hamakua Coast!

Boy Jason, that’s going to be a beauty. I had heard of this palm years ago and had never seen one until now, so thanks. I this at your new place? I need to see it in person for sure.

Wow, that’s a beautiful palm. Super slow here to start. My largest was the only palm I have ever lost to a gopher. My other one planted from same time frame is about 1 - 1.5 leaves a year. Hope it pics up speed.

Wow, Jason, that is something to aspire to! Beautiful palm!

Okay, here are my 2 little C. ifanadianae. #1 is just under 6 ft. overall height, while #2 is over 7 ft. height. No indication of any color, and no trunk. When will they begin trunking? I have no clue -- wild guess? Another 2-3 years?

Updated pictures of this palm in my garden.  Just had a leaf base come off and first ring of trunk is visible now.
