I am in need of some help putting a name to a palm collected in the Darien province of Panama by a friend of mine. It does not have stilt roots, is not spiny , trunk is the size of an Alex. Very distinct leaves .Almost Arenga , fishtail type leaves I thought of Iriartea deltoidea, but no stilt roots ,any suggestions would be great. carlapalm1.thumb.jpeg.5892034c85638b6522d20c558912e997.jpegcarlapalm2.thumb.jpeg.7fbb0747dc3a13fdefaa8791b0481535.jpegany ideas would be appreciated.

Irardia delitoides. I am not good at spelling but it’s probably close

Steven, your first hunch and John’s response are correct, it’s Iriartea. Sometimes the stilts are not so pronounced and become more so with age. I imagine there are more than one species in your area as well, which is another possibility.

Here’s Iriartea deltoidea in the front yard, its stilts are still developing, but it’s already a large seeding palm. One of my many favorites.
