That looks like it is recovering nicely. They are basically bullet proof here. And very silver as they age with a nice purple fuzz on the triangle. Nicely grown.  I would not say bulletproof though.  I killed a couple in my Carlsbad garden a round 25 years ago due to rot.  They were in clay without good drainage.  I since have added one there in a better draining position and have it's sibling here in sandy, well draining soil that is very happy.  Fast to put on trunk here in the sand soil and just started flowering this year after planting from a 1 gallon about 8 years ago.

Add you will be well rewarded now that your specimen is established.   Drainage is the key in winter.
