@Borosbobo it looks like a crown rot to me.  It will kill your palm if not cured, though some just grow out of it.  I have cured several of my palms using doses of hydrogen peroxide followed up by Daconil a couple of hours later.  Repeat a couple of times per week until the H2O2 stops bubbling on contact.  I would also try lightly pulling up on the brown spear to see if it pulls out.

And should I water my palm less frequently while on this treatment?

@Borosbobo just get a bottle of regular household hydrogen peroxide, generally 3% concentration.  You can get it from any grocery store or pharmacy, etc.  Squirt some over the top of the spear, letting it dribble down to the crown.  And then squirt a bit more into the base of the new spear, it likely will bubble up like mad.  That means it is attacking a fungus.

After it quits bubbling that means the hydrogen peroxide has converted to oxygen and water.  At that point repeat with Daconil with the same process.

Repeat a couple of times per week.  It may be useful to mark the spear horizontally with a sharpie, so you can tell if it's still trying to grow taller.

I'd water it normally, just don't water the crown or have sprinklers spraying the crown or new spear.
