Just spotted a coconut palm in North Park, San Diego. Not even 100 feet from my place and I never noticed it 😓. It needs some serious water and chicken poop. Even the jade succulent next to it looks dehydrated. My mission will be meeting this neighbor and getting it hydrated!

I wasn’t sure it was a coconut until I saw the actual coconut at the bottom IMG_4838.thumb.jpeg.eb62828ff79263214a39529bcd59d036.jpegIMG_4840.thumb.jpeg.9d14ab75f44d272d59143229c778f127.jpegIMG_4842.thumb.jpeg.c6ec24696e5f0b5c750f2131fd65e1b3.jpegIMG_4844.thumb.jpeg.5ed937b0a594dcd94f96e9d800b04d2c.jpegIMG_4843.thumb.jpeg.c2cb9aab1addb7b8f40b869c3f78c237.jpeg

Fronds look very Howea-ish (Droopy leaflets) but due to the trunk not being cleaned I can't confirm if it is a Howea or a Coconut. Are you sure that's a coconut in the palm's base?

At the moment I was certain but it was right at sunset so the photos not good so I’m second guessing haha, I can double check in the morning. It looks so much like one of my coco palms I would be shocked if it isn’t a coco palm but I’m not good at identifying plants

Howea are good at mimicking coconuts. That one’s doing a pretty good job if it.

Aw I went back and it was a (coconut shaped) rock ☠️ sorry guys false alarm. I had never seen a Kentia palm look like that and one of my coconut has droopy leaves that look so similar so I thought 😓 IMG_9521.thumb.jpeg.f45d401e6aa94e77a0b310058286f71e.jpeg

It's normal, sometimes coconuts in shady conditions do that. Probably because the leaflets tend to grow larger.

And this is one more reason why I love Kentias.

I bet the rascals who own this house put that stone there on purpose to convince people it is a coconut tree!

🤪What about all the other rocks? Maybe there's a seditious plan regarding the rope too?

Nice palm tree, nevertheless.  Neighbor just needs to water it more.
