Greetings, I have a Trachycarpus Fortunei that about a year ago developed a hole at the base of the trunk. The opening is about 2*3",  inside about 4" deep * 4" tall. Otherwise the tree looks normal though it has started leaning a bit more I believe. No idea what caused the hole and I'm not sure what I should do about it if anything. I saw some suggestions in an earlier post but it sounded like most of those had not been tested. I don’t want to do anything to make matters worse. Has anyone successfully dealt with this issue before? Thanks!

I have never seen a hole that large before. As it is close to the ground , it appears to be a rodent or something but as I said I’ve never seen it. I would keep a close watch and see if there are any animal droppings around that area. Harry
