Planting multiple seeds in one pot

One often sees Bamboo Palms ,Chinese Fan Palms etc planted in multiples of 5,10,20 and even more, and accepting that a little more watering and fertilizing for the first two years, they look attractive with all the extra foliage, but once they get to three years and more ,do you have to split them and risk losing some or do they happily contine growing albeit in a stunted fashion ?

I see this in nurseries with different palms . Depending on the type of palm , eventually , more than just a few in a clump becomes overcrowded. Most folks with potted palms only have them a short while before trouble sets in . Especially indoor palms , unless they are pampered and correctly cared for , are temporary decoration. Harry

European Fan Palms don't seem to mind the mass planting areas as much.

I start Trachycarpus and Sabals this way.

Community pot first year or two, then separate under running water. Replant individually in 4" or 5" pots.
