I think these palms on the bluffs edge are Washingtonia robusta.   What do you think?  It sure is a grand view, isn't it?

That is the closest break to my house, straight west about 500 meters, called "Sand Bags".  Just on the other side of the stairs below those palms in the mural is a break named after the street that runs perpendicular to the beach, "Grandview".  This mural is painted on the new apartments that I recently posted, which planted what turned out to be Brahea edulis.  The mural accurately depicts Washingtonia robusta which line the top of the stairs at Grandview Beach Park.

Sand bags has a little shallow sandstone reef, which is quite fickle and needs the sand on the inside in the right spot to really break properly.  Normally when it gets bigger it is a mushy break on the outside, but can be a fast and punchy spot at medium sizes when it isn't mushing on the outside reef.   The mural is a bit of a fantasy though, as it isn't a long board break at Sand Bags when it is breaking properly.  To your point, I have caught many waves there that end with me hopping off my board into knee deep water.

There is a spot up on Rincon between Mondo’s and Pidas ( Mary’s) I used to call Three Mexicans” because there were three very tall Mexican Fan Palms that were next to the house where the sand bar is . It would stand up there even on a small day , outside break …. and…..right , which was great because I’m regular foot unlike the surfer in the mural . Lefts weren’t my favorite. O k back to our regular programming! Harry🌴🙄

A view from the water is always the best view.
