Looks like it's happy.  🙂  Butia can grow surprisingly fast in the right conditions.

Are you planning on protection for it in winter? Butia are pretty hardy but don’t you get very cold winters there? Harry

Im 100% protecting it here since im on zone 6b. But my winters have been pretty “mild”, and hasnt gotten below -5 in a while, and hopefully no artic blast brings it down past -10 again. I think on the about section you can see how low it's gotten since 2000 in my area.

Also, I will protect it maybe mid November depending on how cold it gets, because that's when it starts getting cold, and maybe late November for the needle, as I know it can take under 20f without a problem.

I'd be cautious about this comment and wouldn't count on it.  I've seen plenty of Butitas killed at 20F in a northern growing zone.

Small, young unestablished Butia are susceptible to cold weather of most types. If it was mine, I would not subject that palm to anything below 25°F (-4°C).

Ditto.

I had one here and wrapped it every Winter. After it hit around 10 ft, I got lazy and did nothing. It was clobbered and the Winter was not exceptionally cold.

Here in SA , Butia palms survived our Palmgeddon ( 9f with snow) and this year with frozen precipitation at temps at around 18f.  I don't see any fatalities not even defoliation the last couple of winters. Last year it got down to 16f.  Just saying.

Pretty decent size when you did the transplant.  That doesn't hurt.  These aren't as picky about transplanting as the Sabal Palmettos tend to be.

What colocasia is in the background? Do you leave it in the ground all winter?

The butia looks great, hopefully it grows big quick so you can eat the fruit. You just gonna build a box around it?

The Colocasia is your ordinary Esculenta, I dug it up last winter but I might see what happens to it if i leave it because I had a smaller one that survived last winter until i stupidly cut the dead stuff off in march which made the corm rot. Im gonna get another pop up greenhouse to keep the rain/ice/snow off the butia, with a frost cloth and inc. xmas lights like what I did for my needle palm.

Yeah I was thinking about buying one of those for my Sabal minor from northeast Ohio palms I reached out to the guy and he said that a Sabal in my zone is more likely to get heat damage than cold if I used one of those. Maybe next year I’ll try it. I would just thing going out and constantly zipping and unzipping can be tedious

Pindo doesn't know when to quit.  I guess the ground temperature will take a while to reduce there.
