Recently I’ve been to Greece for a nice vacation. It was in Pylos on the western coast of the Peloponnes peninsula. The camping site we went to, was approximately 2km away from the luxury hotel, were Giannis Antetokounmpo had his wedding. I saw them partying and asked myself, why he didn’t invite me…

The landscape is beautiful and there are gorgeous beaches and of course many ancient sites. The usual things you get in Greece.

As usual, I’m quite disappointed regarding palm plantings. 90% you see only Date palms and Washies. the rest are some Chamaerops, Trachys and recently more often Queen Palms. Although I love to see any kind of palm, I am disappointed that they don’t take advantage of the whole potential the climate has to offer.
Having said that, I came across a wonderful garden on the last day of my stay only due to a diversion from the normal route.
At first I show you a couple of pictures from that garden and then nice views from the area.

on the other side of the road there were also some plantings:

The following one, I cannot identify. Maybe someone can help me. Could it be a  chambeyronia macrocarpa?

It seems that you have found a genuine palm aficionado in the southwest corner of Katavlakia. He  seemingly conducts also guerilla planting. Those palmate palms adjacent to the road must be Livistona decora. This man wants obviously to plug in any palm that falls in to his hands. It would not surprise me if this person turns out a newcoming settler and not a local resident.

I`m with you. I also don`t think, that the owner of that villa is a local. I found it on streetview. it is near Marathopoli

If you are the next time near Pylos or Kyparissia, try to pass by that villa. I was on a hurry and didn`t see really much of the rich variety of the planted palms. To be honest, I only discovered most of the palms later in the photos.

In streetview, you can see, that the Roystonea must have been planted somewhen before 2019.

Oh dear if I had that plot.. there would be so many more interesting things in it than just a few palms and stupid grass. I believe that Pylos has one of the best climates in Greece for tropical planting
