Is  anyone besides Patrick been successful with making this hybrid? Very interested in a seedling of one if it’s out there 😁.

It's a difficult hybrid to make.  Jubaea being the mother palm are pretty tall when they flower so the pollination by hand is done up high.  The Jubaea at the Riverwalk in San Antonio never got mature enough to flower.  Jubaea don't do well on the humid east coast so the only mature palms in the US that I know of that can be used are in California.

Mother nature made 2 for me on her own. I collected and grew a batch of seeds myself from the one blue Jubaea at Mission Beach, California and ended up with two J x S hybrids out of about 60 plants. Sometimes, you just get lucky... 🤷‍♂️

There’s at least one in Australia which was an accidental cross from a mother Jubaea near a female S romanzoffiana. I’m generally not a big Cocoid hybrid fan, but this is a seriously cool palm!

I hope you have deep pockets @Robert Cade Ross  they commanded a high price. A seedling cost $100 5+ years ago. I would think if they become available again it would be double that.

Well I’ve spent $500 on a single plumeria plant before 😹 I’m sure I would spend that much for a cool hybrid if possible. 🤞🤞🤞

If it was a wild palm, how do you know that is what it is? Was there a Syagrus right next to it?  I’m not familiar with Jubaea at all.

This is THE holy grail Patric hybrid ! The only one I'm missing unfortunately. Patric lost access to the Jubaea that he used to make this hybrid. I believe he is still making a (BxJ)xS which should be similar in attributes which I do have and is growing up nicely. Now my BxLytoWedd is an absolute stunner and is in beast mode right now. Outgrowing my BxPJT surprisingly.

I know what it is because I personally collected the seeds, and grew them out myself. At the time, this 1 (well known blue Jubaea) tree was the only one dropping seeds in the area. There are also Syagrus and other standard green Jubaea trees in the area.

The seeds were individually cleaned, and planted into a newly created in ground bed.  While all the seedlings looked the same as strap leaves,as time went on,2 of the plants began to grow much faster than the rest of the group. (3 times faster) The fronds on these 2 hybrids grow in straight, flat planes. Jubaea hybrids with Butia usually have the typical Butia curve to their fronds.😉👍

Are you willing to make the drive to pick one up? The time is now. At this point, fronds are already eight feet tall - too tall to be shipped. If you are serious, you can dig this one up (number 2) to your specifications for $600. It is at least 15 gallon size if not 24" box size. I also have it's standard Jubaea brothers and sisters in 15 g pots available for $250 each. Time for a road trip to bring several of these AZ grown palms back to Texas!😄

Pretty much any palm in my 2 yards is up for sale if the price is fair. I have sold at least a dozen individual palms out of my own landscapes over the past 15 years. Opportunity is knocking right now at your front door. Are you going to answer?👍

Dang it AZ, if you were in Texas my shovels would already be in the trunk!😄

So tempting… you gonna make the LONG trek across West Texas for that JxS OC2Texaspalmlvr?

I got one a few years ago as a single leaf. Survived all the freezes and droughts until the last one. Fungus got in too deep and I was too late to save it (spear was green but not moving). Trunk cutting did not help. Gut puncher...  🥹
