Yea that car has been around here for a while. May be the first time we have seen under the bonnet.

Bill must not be home yet, have not seen a post by him. May be picking up ranch hands. Trouble fitting them in the car with all those palms?

Phil, all the GMC truck mucle in the world would not beat that thing. Even my S.C. 6 L. would have to give up some palms. In fact I would give palms just to be able to drive it!

Jeff, next trip to Cali may be a group deal...my wife wants to go!

Bill drops by from time to time, usually with another of this Board's members, and we talk palms.  I've been telling you for years that Bill likes three things: palms, sports cars, and pretty girls.  This time it was a fast sports car.  Regarding putting palms into the smallest of cars, perhaps I'll start that threat some day with some interesting photos.  You'd be surprised.

Sometimes a little humor mixed in with the palms is fun.  Years ago I started a thread on different forms of treatment for Palm Addicts.   That was fun.

First let me say this thread was amusing and fun.

However that doesn't change the fact that it shouldn't have been in :

DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDE

Taxonomy & Id. , Morphology/Anatomy, Landscaping, General Interest

This thread in no way shape or form fits in any of the sub categories described for this forum.

This thread belonged in the new off topic sub forum OHANA NUI. The reason it wasn't posted there is because the author thought it would receive more exposure in DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDE,than it would in the new off topic forum. Which  is right, as the new off topic forum has received scant attention since it's recent inception!

Since the new forum guidelines and rules were stated,I think everyone here should be treated fairly and equally.

I used to think that was the case here, but maybe as some have suggested it might well be who you are, or who you know as to how you are moderated, or treated on this board.

Some might think I am making a mountain out of a mole hill here,( I probably am) and that is your right, but I feel it is important to discuss this in view of the recent changes! Call me an idealist, but everyone should be moderated, treated, the same here, at least as  much as is humanly possible.

Just so everyone is aware I brought this to the attention of both moderators, and a board member, ( that's right a tattletail)starting on11/20 and no action has been taken, so I must assume that the rules don't apply in this case?

I'll step off my soapbox now. The thread has run it's course anyway!

Scott,

Technically, your absolutely right, but subjects under Palm Talk seem to get ignored, or very little traffic and every now and then we need a little "levity," not that I'm going out to race anyone for a palm tree, nor am I making excuses for anyone.

I don't think anyone is getting special treatment, and I'm sure I don't. There is hardly a thread that we don't get off subject to some degree. It just shows what a mind expanding experience it is to grow palms and have a community of active minds.

Since the old free wheeling site was dropped, the language and fire has deminished considerably, and I think most would agree it was getting over the top. I think Dean said he only had to kick off 3 people, and they were attacking him personally and being abusive. I wouldn't exactly call that censorship. I don't feel like Big Brother is watching over me.....and if I get deleted for something, maybe it was deserved. We all do get a little wound up sometimes and maybe step over the edge.

The very fact that Phil's thread was allowed to run shows that things are not to restrictive in here, and there is a lot of room for discussion. As for sports cars.....I have an old BMW Z-3, and a Honda Civic could leave it in the dust, but it's sure fun to drive on those warm toasty days in Calif.

Scott,

I am both mystified and dissapointed that you have choosen to take such an amusing light-hearted thread and turn it into such a public personal vendetta requiring my reply.

For the record, I respond to every PM I receive. Many times I do it through an email reply instead of a return PM. I do that so I have a written record of all my responses, precisely for instances such as this one. You apparently missed my email response. Since we have communicated many times before, I would have wished you had extended me the courtesy of a double check before also complaining to the Co-Moderator, Web Committee Chairman (an IPS Director), and now publicly. Incidentally, I discussed this with, and directed the Co-Mod not to respond to you, since I already had. In addition, I have now had to discuss this more than once with the Web Committee Chairman. And now, I am having to take the additional time to respond to you publicly. Was this really necessary?

My reply to your initial complaint on the same day it was received:

Scott,

Of course you're right.

However, I got to it late, everyone was having fun with it, I have known all those guys for 20+ yrs, in fact Phil's nursery is within walking distance of my house in Cal. So I didn't feel like being an authoritative grinch. Call it preferential treatment if you like. You would probably be right.

As everyone can read, I agreed with Scott, and even conceded a personal bias. However, I do not wish PalmTalk to be a rigid Boot Camp. And by the time I saw this thread, everyone was enjoying a laugh, including the Web Committee Chairman. All Forum members, including your moderator, are human and have friends. And in rare instances I may be "guilty" of small acts of favoritism. In fact, Scott's avatar was a gift from me, another act of preferential treatment, I suppose.

Thanks to those of you who help make this a fun and friendly forum.

Dean,

I must apologize in public for indicating that you did not respond to my PM. As you have clearly shown that you did in an email, to my e-mail address.

In my defense I do not use this e-mail address for anything, and never check it. One would assume that if one sends a PM ,and there was a response to that PM ,it would come in the form of a PM from the forum site. As is the case, that is not what happened here, I ASS-U-ME-D ,and we all know what happens when one assumes,(mainly me  by the way).

As far as a personal vendetta is concerned there is none, I felt that I was being ignored, and the thread didn't get moved, as I was told it would be,so again I assumed the worst.  That is why I stated my case on the forum.

Which with your explaination doesn't change the facts relating to this not being in the correct forum, and that there are different rules according to who you are, or who you know! However I am truly sorry I wasted your time!

I felt ,either rightly or wrongly that there was a PRINCIPLE involved here.

And still stand by that principle, every poster should be treated equally.

Maybe it was the wrong time to make that point, especially considering the communication gap regarding the PM's versus e-mails!

Also my apologies to anyone who felt I trashed this thread, that was not my intent,if it had been in the right forum I would never have even commented on it,not knowing most of the parties involved. I would have read it an thought it entertaining and amusing!

My molehill became a mountain in large part because of me,and in part because this thread was in the wrong place to begin with, and nothing was done about it,for whatever reasons!

WAL,

Glad you have a big FORK I need it to make sure I'm DONE!

Hmmm... the name of this topic is "Racing for PALMS" and  now we are splitting hairs about just how "palm-related" a thread is? It is still technically a discussion about palms (I've got your back Phil :) ).  So at what point does a topic have to be put into the off-topic forum?  Do we have to have a guideline for that as well? So ok, from now on if your thread has only 80% palm-related content it must be moved to the Ohana Nui!! Lighten up folks!

Oh, almost forgot to mention...   how nice of you Dean to help Scott with his avatar!

BTW WAL,  LOVE your avatar!!!

Dear scott nickels  :)

iam very suprised that you did not like car & palms together..

and i must tell here one thing that when palappa went down the entrie traffic or clicks to this forum went down considerably and only just 4 visitors were regular..so just tightening rules and telling all show post only on plams & nothing else will appear bit dictorial & monotonous..

Iam from india & i do not have any love loss with the persons who interacted in this thread which would include even the topic starter.but i did not feel that this was off topic since the thread heading was racing for palms..that alone would qualify this thread to be in this desired chapter..

I expected you all to be more Kool & easy taking than showing immedieate condemnation..since this kind of critisium will certainly make our form & its threads a bit

monotonus..

Hope dear scott(gsn) takes my opnion in a sporting fashion.since iam not a westerner to put the literature in a neat and presentable fashion to you,if iam wrong or hurt your feeling in any way.iam willing to apologise to you.

And i must tell u all, that the people & friends with whom i interact here seem to be the nicest guys around..and that was the reason for me to visit this forum so often and also talk my mind & share my thoughts with you all.

What Jeff? You can't pick my shoulder out of a line-up?  :D

I have other laps around on a CD somewhere, but I kept that one as it had a spin.

That is an "Autocross", I used to do that quite a bit, even went to the Nationals in Kansas many times and managed a 2nd and a 3rd at different times in different cars.  The black Tuscan was more of a lark to run at that event any way.  No prep on it and basically just the way I bought it.  I almost beat one of the Viper drivers and they were on race rubber and set-up, etc. :D

Here you can see me in the hat at the same event.

I'm a Pontiac kinda guy and I've never seen a coupe in the wild.  I'd race ya but only on a road course, not enough seat time at Auto-X to run against a seasoned vet.

Had to find a pic of my car with Palms in background (taken at Sebring) so I don't get in trouble with my first post, hahaha. Car started life as a 70 Pontiac Esprit I cloned to look kinda like a Trans Am. I'm on a lot of car forums and use NOT A TA as a screen name so I figured I'd use it here also.
