Autumn colors in N. Hemisphere

Tracy

Recommended Posts

So it is that time of year in the Northern Hemisphere,  Autumn.   Transplants to semi tropical places often lament the absence of seasons, particularly the leaves change of colors.   Yes it is beautiful when Autumn arrives in places like Vermont or even in California's Sierras as deciduous trees go through their annual rite.

Being a native of California i learned to appreciate other features of the seasons.   Fall's transition from predominantly south swells to mixing swells and ultimately the predominantly north swells of winter.   The gradually changes in high temperatures and decreasing ocean water temperature.

As a plant person I learned to appreciate what was blooming in Autumn, the change of color in Hibiscus and Plumeria flowers from their hot season colors.  And of course we have colorful leaves on some of our palms.  So share some of your colors of Autumn 🍂.

I thought it said "autumn colors in New Hampshire" lol. I was like that's nice but what does that have to do with palms? Now I see, it's just me. Need more sleep. Great photos, looking beautiful. I'm from Maryland but just moved to California for college. Can't say I miss the colors all that much, I'd gladly trade that for nice weather year round and the palms and nature that come with it. And indeed I have :) Plus the months of hideous leafless trees that come after the couple months of colorful foliage. My area of Maryland too was the worst for that cause the landscape was almost all deciduous trees and little understory unlike other parts of the state and region, so it looks like the photo below. And if I'm ever nostalgic for those dreary deciduous trees of home, I can see a bit of fall color on the sweetgums and maples around campus. But I shudder to think that they plant those here. Palms and ficus are more my speed. Beautiful pictures, I'm enjoying this California fall indeed!

Traded this (always hurt my soul every single winter, and I'm from there, to see this hideous landscape for months):

A little color on my most recent Burretiokentia koghiensis planting. I have two in the ground, being the only species of the genus represented in my collection so far.
