It's nice to see rings, even if they're on common palms! 🌴 I got around to cleaning old leaf bases on my queen palm this afternoon. Let's see yours!

I like the way this palm is framed in the photo. Nice composition!

From earlier today: Archontophoenix "Teracarpa" (named hybrid from Jungle Music).

Even though many of us are drawn to things rare and exotic, and may eschew the things we see day in and day out...it's good to remember that a well-grown queen palm can still be a thing of great beauty. Looks like you are being a very good steward on that front! Very nice indeed.

Thank you! I do like this queen palm, I try to water and fertilize it well so that it look as best as it can.

I used a handheld saw to score the base of the boot and that allowed me to pry the boot from the trunk (by pulling the boot downward). I used the same handheld saw to cut any parts that remained attached.

Burlap shouldn't get wet enough to invite fungal infections in the crown.  That would be a giant stretch, at best.  We're only talking about a temporary wrap for a very short period of time in this case.

This is perfect looking king! Hard to see them perfect like that! What is your secret? Is it in full sun?

Posted

It's not in full sun and this is definitely the reason. I know, because I have another triple on the opposite side of the entrance driveway. The other one sees full sun and gets the same amount of water. It's also the same hybrid Archontophoenix from the same seller and was planted at the same time.

I speculate this one could look a little better with more water to compensate, but not equally as good. Maybe someday when it's more mature, they will both look pretty good. For now, the shaded ones are very happy.

Also those looking good, slightly yellow from sun exposure. When did you plant them? Looking at the rings they look slowly grown. Do they usually grow faster in the shade? Unless you planted

Posted

Planted 2 years ago. If I fertilized them more and gave them more water, I imagine they would be bigger, but they're part of the landscaping at the property I manage and I can't be babying them like my own home grown palms.
