Wow! It looks like it's cattle country, and the livestock have eaten pretty much everything except the Trithrinax.

Fantastic!  Such a cool and painful palm. Your shots remind me of the Joshua trees in my local desert.

This was at the end of the dry season (winter), and it was an extra dry winter, there were massive forest fires just 2 minutes further down the road, in fact the road was still closed because of them.

During their humid summer the area is actually pretty green.
