I am aiming to try growing the best tasting coconut. My limited google research has said that

Aromatic Sweet Dwarf, Macapuno, and Philippine Catigan dwarf

are the best for what I am aiming for… but I can’t find squat when it comes to purchasing a sprouted tree.

From what I have read and understand is that these will not sprout (or not easily) because I can’t hear water sloshing. But I am green to this type of growing. 🙃

I believe that these Cocos are endocarp only and that the exocarp must be intact for germination.

Welcome to the forum @LadyBab. Store bought coconuts can be germinated but that’s not the problem here. Your location is not optimal for coconuts to grow outside of a greenhouse. If you want to eat the best tasting coconuts, you will need to buy them. If you want to grow palms, there are other much better options for your area. There are several members in your region who will likely see this  and comment.

It looks like the mesocarp is what is pictured. Exopcarp removed. Endocarp intact. @SeanK

Thank you. I am wanting to grow a coconut IN a greenhouse. @Johnny Palmseed

You may be better off buying a germinated one from a nursery.

I don't think I've seen any reports on PalmTalk of successful germinations of "shaved" coconuts like those in your picture.  If you search PalmTalk, then I think you will find many reports of successful germinations of intact coconuts.  So, if you really want to germinate some coconuts, then I propose that you shop for some intact coconuts.

Thank you @awkonradi I am going to experiment with it and see what happens. I have it soaking in reef rich salt water. And I am going to put it in a bucket with a mixture of sand, palm and citrus blend pre mixed soil, and some kelp boosted vitamins. I’ll set it on a seed heating pad with a reptile light and a heat lamp in a humid aquarium. Maybe add a vampire crab in for kicks. I am seriously not expecting anything to happen. So I might as well have fun with the experiment.
