Dypsis louvelii dypsis minuta dypsis poiveana all flowering

Some of the best understory dypsis in my collection are flowering. I have been observing them for the last 5 months removing them from the greenhouse to give the insects a chance of helping them out in pollination in anticipation of hopefully some seeds set. All are cool tolerant being in the collection for around 4 years so they are winners in the zone push department. I will also brush them with an artist brush daily when they look ready. So fingers crossed I might get a couple of seeds of some rare understory dypsis varieties I won’t hold my breath but will cross the fingers. No sprays have been used on them these are one variety of palm that I want insect activity on.

Those aren't quite in anthesis (pollen-producing males and pistil-opening females) yet.  The sepals needs to begin opening. And there is usually a 3-10 day gap between the males opening and females opening. Prob another week or two out..

The first one looks pretty. I can never remember which is which regarding the tiny palms. As I have so little space here the little dypsis would probably suit my garden very well (if I can ever get it into some kind of order)  Of course as this week is the first I have had for spending any time in the garden for a while,  a heatwave has descended so there's no way I can go outside and do anything.  I have a lot of youngsters bought last year and earlier this year still in tubes and seedling pots that need potting up.

I came. I saw. I purchased
