I visited La Carbonera (aka Tochecito) earlier today, and it more than lived up to its billing.  These are quick and dirty edits from my laptop, so when I get home in a couple weeks and have my main computer, I'll make sure to update this post with more photos.

Mild oceanic climate, with coastal exposure.

 

Summer: 12°C (53°F) average min, to 21°C (70°F) average daily max. Up to 40°C (104°F max) rarely.

 

Winter: 6°C (43°F) average min, to 13°C (55°F) average daily max. Down to 0°C (32°F) occasionally, some light frost.

Yes, nice. I thought at first glance: Wow, a condor! But talking a look closer, I saw it was my well known "carranho" or also called "carcará" here in south Brazil. 

Carambeí, 2nd tableland of the State Paraná , south Brazil.

Alt:1030m. Native palms: Queen, B. eriospatha, B. microspadix, Allagoptera leucocalyx , A.campestris, Geonoma schottiana, Trithrinax acanthocoma. Subtr. climate, some frosty nights. No dry season. August: driest month. Rain:1700mm

 

I am seeking for cold hardy palms!
