Foxtail Palm tree doesn’t look healthy at the base. Anyone know what’s wrong?

See the attached photo. One of my foxtails looks like the base outer part is rotting away. All the other ones in a row look fine. Anyone know the problem and how to fix it?  Thanks in advance for any help in this. My location is Hawaii, growing zone 12b if that helps.

Adventitious roots pushing through the dead bark material.  Palms are basically the anatomical opposite of trees - the living tissue is on the inside while the dead tissue is on the outside.  The roots expand and break through the dead external layers.  This is totally normal and if anything may be considered a sign of health because it signals the root mass is expanding.

yup, good explanation.  Very common as palms age.
