GENcast AI weather model

Has anyone heard about this new AI generated weather model? Im seeing commentary articles about it being pretty accurate to 15 days. They provide the source code at github also under google-deepmind/graphcast. If anyone here is savvy enough with it, you can download the ERA5 dataset and run it yourself apparently. They want it available to anyone so everyone can benefit apparently, but i do not have the know-how to do all of that myself yet (im going to try to learn more though). What are people's thoughts?  The accuracy of the data sets on a microclimate level is still poor, so it wont change much for me personally based on the PRISM map data.

I work in technology and am regularly a part of AI initiatives designed to deploy to retail clients.

ChatGPT is wild but most AI isn't as good as the public is led to believe - at least not yet.

Thats what i thought. I have said its a misnomer calling any of it it "AI" lol.  Maybe one day we will get that small scale accuracy so forecasts match reality everywhere.

If it is anything like the AI version of the ECMWF that was launched last year, ( EC-AIFS ) it's a gamble -reliability wise- at best..  Betting the house on it = not a wise idea. :greenthumb:

Locally, best finer scale WX model has been the WRF ....which i also don't place 100% confidence in.
