Update on freeze damage

I am here to show some updated photos of the sylvesters that were damaged in the mid to low 20s for multiple nights without protection. Tomorrow I will post a standing up photo of the two that I only showed from the crown. What do you guys think? Still looking pretty solid since they are green and the crown fronds don’t look too bad? Definitely showing much more yellow and brown after the weather came back to the 60s.

It should be fine. In in zone 8 in Eastern NC (perhaps very similar climate?) and I have a sylvestris that I keep uncovered. By the early spring it looks beat up but comes back. It also is a pretty fast grower for me.

thanks, here it has been pretty cold of a winter so far surprisingly not sure how it’s been going up there though, but yea I’’m pretty sure we get basically the same kind of weather I noticed Charlotte has always been about the same weather as here. I have seen pindos that people never cover up all over the area and they are basically bulletproof no matter what which somewhat and never show any damage which surprises me since they have the same guidelines as a palm like this.

Yes, it has dropped to the low twenties already in the beginning of December. Typically it won't drop this cold until the first week of January, but now is pretty uncommon.  It is warming up and I hope it stays like this, but I fear.

Charlotte has more palms than people realize, especially by the lakes. I have never been but from what i've seen, palms are becoming more and more common in that area. Eastern NC stays a bit warmer than Charlotte. The proximity to the ocean and being 20 miles west of the large tidal rivers helps keep things moderated.

Yea I feel like all I would ever see in those places are sabal palmettos. Good luck to you also I hope the temperatures here and there stay moderate here on out.

these are the other two that I didn’t show in the stand up photos with the beautiful lush chamaerops that are never fazed one bit in the background
