Fertilizer for tropical/subtropical palm seedlings

Hey everyone! I would like some advice on the best fertilizers for juvenile palm trees. Organic or natural options would be the best.

If anyone has  a piece of advice,  I'll be thankful for any suggestion.

About 20 years ago , when my palms were still young , I gave them Palm Plus . It was a 3 month time release . I’m not sure if is available where you are . Now I use E B Stone organic on just a few of my newly planted palms . I mix it in with some good garden soil as a top layer , then add wood chips. Make sure the soil around the plant is mildly damp when you mix it in . Harry

The best thing for baby palms and plants is seaweed emulsion. If you can water with it 2 to 1 ratio with 2 fertiliser and 1 water in summer using the recommended amount on the labeling or less if you prefer good warm weather is a great advantage for fertilising. Don’t fertiliser in winter and remember a little goes a long way. My  experience with fertiliser got of to a bad start with palms try killing a hundred marojejya darinii using the wrong fertiliser recipe devastating to do. Now I only use liquid seaweed emulsion,  fish emulsion and liquid blood and bone. Basically treat them hydroponically but you need to know your soil  mix water holding capacity. Good drainage is the key you have to tune your soil in good it’s a learning curve.

I also use fish emulsion and kelp extract (seaweed) for seedling sized palms.  I use 30 ml of both products in 4 liters of water, and I apply this solution every time I irrigate the seedlings.

( non metric individuals ?  We are talking 2 tablespoons of each in 1 gallon of water !)  :winkie:

I’m doing the same thing Darold is doing. 2 tablespoons per gallon of water, use it each watering. On larger palms I add micro max as top dressing.

I use leaves that are about to dry out from my avocado tree, crotons, sea grapes, pseudobombax, and other palms like Chamaedoreas and break them in smaller pieces so they can fit the pot. I also use fruit peels like mandarin and oranges.

I use about 50 mls to ten litres of water 2 fertiliser to one water. I also use a Venturi with 400mls of seaweed to 5 litres of water then through the Venturi making about 200 litres of mixed up fertiliser.
