23 year old Chuniophoenix nana goes in the ground

I’ve had this Chuniophoenix for 23 years in its container as part of the palm container collection. Well today it got freedom from its container and into the wild jungle garden it goes. With a great sigh off relief I could hear it say finally I get to be part of the jungle, not keeped  locked up in a container freedom at last. I look forward to seeing it grow and adding to the ornamental look of the garden.

There quite cool tolerant and very tough so don’t be afraid of planting it. I don’t think frost would be nice to it but my temperature is as low as 2 degrees Celsius so go for it plant your one.

ok Richard! I want to try this species again, in winter I have a huge space under the house, a little sun also comes in, I will put them there, so they don't get the light frost that we have here,
I thank you from the bottom of my heart, I found a new friend !

Am i the only one that thinks this is one of the dumbest genus names in the kingdom? It's fun to say but this beautiful palm deserved better as it has nothing to do with Phoenix. Looks like a cross between Rhapidophyllum & Licuala i always thought!

It is an odd name but look at Johannesteijsmannia. As children we would call our grandmother nana. But it’s a wonderful palm you don’t see much of regardless of its name. Super slow to grow to a decent size though. I will definitely be planting a grove of them in the future.

Acanthophoenix, Archontophoenix, Brassiophoenix, Cyphophoenix, Lemurophoenix, Pseudophoenix…it’s not alone. I believe Phoenix stems from Greek for palm so I guess it’s no surprise a bunch of palm genera have it included in their name.

Yeah, but this phoenix is palmate, those are all pinnate (mostly as not sure of all...)

I had never heard that definition before but guess it could be the reason but Pseudophoenix is surely a mockery of this discussion

Phoenix (the palm genus) is actually more closely genetically aligned to palmate palms than other pinnate species. I have always thought Pseudophoenix (false palm) to be an odd genus name, but the others on the discussion all have their own meaning (e.g Chuniophoenix honours some names Chun I believe).
