Always get pretty good germination at 88deg F. I use Vivosun heat pads with temperature probes.  On the left are Marijuana grow lights with adjustable dimmer knobs, and EZ Storage gasket-seal containers for palms.  On the right are 1015 seed starter trays for my Canna Lily and other non-palms.

I’ve also got heaps of the C onilahensis stuff/upright form from RPS sprouting. Robust seedlings. Good to know your Vonitra perrieri seeds are sprouting. Mine have a bit of a bad odour which usually isn’t a good sign. Might have to clean them up and start again.

So like they are good ones that’s good news Tim. None of my vonitra have started to germinate either time will tell.

I see we all order when something new is available on RPS. My vonitra are still waiting to pop. But they arrived with a lot of fungus.
by the way, what are you guys doing about that. Sometimes my boxes get invaded by the fungus that are trapped in the fiber of the seeds. Even after a day in H2O2 for the seeds.
my setup is much simpler : lunchbox, wet peat, and wait outside

Germinating about 30 different species, but in small quantities, max 10-20 seeds IMG_1015.thumb.jpeg.18b61a1ea6b959c99086e97096cfc5f1.jpeg

I just did a bleach and water soak before sowing.  They took a couple months to pop. And only a few have popped out of 100... So far

I find a bleach and distilled water mix (1:15 ratio) works better than peeoxide. I just soak for 15-30 mins then rinse.  Also, seeds like oxygen to germinate ..i would add some perlite to your peat. May help germinate and also keep fungus at bay

Yeah I do similar. Water and H2O2 for a few days before sowing. I suspect based on your results the seeds are right on the edge of viability. I’d be happy if I just get a couple from my 50 or so seeds.

I’ve come to the conclusion that there’s not much you can do if seeds arrive already with a fungal outbreak. I’ve never really been able to reverse it once it’s taken hold. I’m now using 100% perlite for sowing all species and so far it seems to work well to limit outbreaks occurring, but the medium doesn’t seem to matter if seeds are already affected.

Iam with @tim_brissy_13 if the seeds are infected with fungus (customs must have slipped on that one 🙏) I don’t worry to much about it I just use a sterile clean mix and sow away and hope for the best. I have a batch of Areca Montanna from rps at the moment only two have germinated so far out of 100 I don’t hold much hope for the rest of them that’s palm growing for you the good with the bad, iam happy with at least two new palms for the collection. By the looks of your setup its pretty clean and your wearing gloves that’s one step ahead of what I do gloves. If the seeds are viable then it doesn’t matter to me iam confident that I will get some strike rate, a good grower can cause pithium and damping off losing a whole batch. Just keep it clean from the go is all I do.

Agreed. Tropical rain forest species with short viability.  I'm also happy to get just a few to put in my garden.  I've tried H202. 6% food grade. Still think bleach works better. H202 oxydizes organic matter then becomes inert. If it finishes the reaction before killing all fungus, some fungus could remain. Just my opinion. I also maintain a sterile environment within the seed bins...Use bottled distilled water, bagged soil, and latex gloves.  Then fly traps to catch fungus gnats.
