I received 9 Ravenea glauca seeds today and all of them float in water. Anyone has experience with these seeds? Is the floating a very bad sign?

They look awfully small based on the few I have germinated.  Look like the fruit may still be on the seed too which would make the seed even smaller but could also expalin why they float.

I'm not familiar with R. glauca seeds but I agree with Richard.  If there's some fruit still attached to the seed that can cause seeds to float.  Since they've been soaking for a few hours now you should be able to easily remove any excess fruit.  I would finish cleaning the seeds and let them soak overnight.  If the seeds are viable they will likely sink by tomorrow morning if not sooner.

Only hope for you Thanos is exactly what Richard said; that dried out flesh is still attached around the seed. If this is not the case odds for fertile seeds are really ill! Not that even by fertile seeds you will get necessarily what you paid for!! Those are very frequently the game rules. Tbh I have no experience of Ravenea seeds, but I have of Livistona ones, and those do remind vaguely Livistona seeds.

I just did this with Veitchia seeds, fruit covered about half floated, after the soaking the fruit was easy to clean off and the floaters then sank.

I had made some seedlings of ravenea glauca, seeds always bought from RPS, the seeds were so fresh that they germinated in 2 weeks

for Tanasio: if the seeds germinate, be careful at the beginning they don't like too much water

Thanks everyone. I tried to scrap any fruit flesh today but there isn't any. The seeds are hard like wood. And still floating..

Oh well, perhaps next time!

Give them some more time and perhaps use lukewarm or hot water for soaking. If flesh is so dry, then seeds should be quite old. Do not forget a negative review for the scum!

I asked him when the seeds were harvested and he said he doesn't know cos he imports them...

Meanwhile Ravenala glauca's seeds need to be no more than 3 months old to be able to germinate. Oh well... I may wait for RPS to bring fresh ones.

He sells retail obtained seeds, without having first tested their freshness? That's unacceptable. Have you asked him whether seeds are still surrounded by flesh, or he did not bother even to look at them?
