On Monday while filling up at the Circle K on the west side of Deming, on my recent return trip from Tucson, I saw this palm I forgot about from a few years ago. Sabal mexicana:

.

Even more Sabal and possibly Washingtonia closer to the main doors to the hotel, past the portico.

.

A nice amount of fruit produced.

This palm is at this Comfort Inn, nicely visible from the gas pumps to the west:

Yes, and yet I know of so few in this area. All two in Jeff Anderson's "desert jungle" as I call it, near downtown Las Cruces. None so far in El Paso that I've seen. They should be made available for sale here.

I'm unsure when the Sabal mexicana at the Albuquerque Biopark were planted, which is 5F less or even slightly colder than Deming. NM can't do much in the way of palms, but it defies all logic on a few other palms.

And I'm glad I'm not the only person looking at cool plants after 9 pm on a Saturday night!!

Impressive... underrated palm for NM.. especially ABQ.. considering they are more leaf hardy than robusta tainted washingtonias..growth is at a good clip too..
