A couple of my genoformis in the garden have a few seeds on them. A couple had started show signs of being (starting to dry out) ready, so I thought why pick a few and  put a few in a community pot and see how I go. A couple of extra genoformis in the garden would be nice. IMG_4280.thumb.jpeg.32a2e02cbdf11862546b5d7db8642c0e.jpegIMG_4282.thumb.jpeg.8842b7e437ac878f5f0c9bdcebf68c17.jpeg

Nice , looks like you will have some wee ones soon. Interesting how some Chamaedorea produce bunches of seed and others like your Genoformis produce only a few. I have followed your posts , and with my own experience , noticed that the bifid leaf ones are the ones that usually produce fewer seeds. My Metallica gave me one seed this year and another one still green on the plant . I keep them in close proximity to assure the best outcome. I have 9 plants in two seperate pots . I started with 8 plants , one seed sprouted 6-7 years ago so I know that the seeds are viable. The plants were quite old when I found them in the back of a nursery that was closing. They had three pots with 4 in each pot , I bought them all and gifted one of the pots to my sister in law. That was about 25 years ago! Harry

Let us know how they grow indoors in Deutschland! They’re great outside in the shade.

Hi Dave,

The biggest issue will be the low humidity inside. But I will add a big  coaster  with water in underneath to increase the local humidity.  This works perfectly for my roystonea regia seedling.

ButI'll let you all know.

Richard I had 150 seedlings of tenella, frondosa, geonomiformis, ernesti-augusti, rojasiana, all dead due to lack of water!

Richard, you should have good luck with germination on your Geonomiformis. Seeds from this little palm seem to just be waiting to pop, unlike many others.

From my experience it comes down to how well they are pollinated. Before I was pollinating by hand I would get the odd seed of my chams. Now hand pollinated I get strings full of seeds, I did get a full seeds set on one flower of my Metallica hand pollinated again. The insect or animal that does pollination in the wild is not in my area I know that, wind seems to be the one for the odd seed set. There are  no old nursery’s left anymore to find that rare good score in the palm department, chain stores closed them down slowly. Only markets you find growers such as myself that are passionate about plants with the rare odd plants that are seldom available anywhere. It’s a shame there are not many nurseries left anymore they are there but rare now.

That’s so hurtful losing so many good varieties of chamaedoreas.

yes Richard I have a few left, including 1 benzei and 1 hooperiana, I had many of these

benzei is recovering now, as you can see it doesn't look good and has been abandoned for 5 years

(sorry for the outburst: damned disease)

Benzei is a great species. Your ones look fine they will look better in time. Just look at your palms recovering with you in time all will be fine.
