the beautiful arenga engleri, I made it from seed in the early 2000s, the seeds took a year and a half to germinate! 5 years ago it flowered and produced a lot of seeds that were all lost, because I could not collect them, I was in bed

I have had one for about 30 or more years . It now has dark red or orange fruit, not sure if the seeds will be viable as it’s the only one I have. When they feel like they want to come off easily I will try to germinate them. They are very nice palms and hardy. Nice plant! I don't have luck with them, something I must be doing very wrong. Are yours in full sun?

I have one single plant on my terrace in Rome and it's seeds are fertile.

I used the seed for experimenting with the delidding method. It's quite simple with Arenga engleri and they start germinating immediately

In my garden seeds germinate naturally in the ground! Not many, because most spots are bone dry. But wherever there is irrigation and decent soil, small plants pop up!

I would advise wearing latex gloves when cleaning the fruit from the seeds due to a very irritating compound in the fruit- sone kind of acid I forget the actual name. I learned the hard way many years ago when cleaning A. hookerii fruit. It wasn't the end of the world, but was pretty unpleasant.

Solid zone 9, I can expect at least one night in the mid to low twenties every year.

Hot, dry summers. Cold, wet winters.

I had a similar experience with some Caryota fruit when I was in Kauai. My hands started tingling , then went numb for about 25 minutes. It kinda scared me . Thank you for the reminder. Harry
