Hello I was thinking about getting a Trunking Sable what I mean by Trunking Sable like a Sable Louisiana or Sable Birmingham or a Sable Brazoria. Which one do you guys think would be the most hardy and the best one, my guess is the Brazoria or the Louisiana.

What ever your choice, it'll need some form of winter protection. I expect you're already aware.

@PaPalmTrees For me, Brazoria grows the fastest and I don't see much (if any) difference or advantage in cold hardiness with regular palmetto, birmingham, and brazoria.

Sabal brazoriensis is probably hardier with a faster growth rate than S. birmingham. I am not sure where S. louisiana falls into this when it comes to hardiness, but I have heard they aren't terribly slow growers. If I were you I would do either S. louisiana or S. brazorensis over S. birmingham

I also would look into some of the Eastern North Carolina variants of Sabal minor like 'Emerald Isle Giant' or 'Pamlico Blues', they are known to trunk as well.

Yeah I've heard Sabal brazoriensis is The hardiest, And Sable Louisiana is the second hardiest but In terms of growth I think the Louisiana is just a little bit more faster than the Brazoria. I also do have a North Carolina Sabal minor i'm not sure what county it's from but hopefully it does develop a trunk at one point

Oh, so you didn't mean Martes zibellina!  😄  I don't know which Sabal of the ones you mentioned is the most cold hardy but if Sabal minor 'Louisiana' is as cold hardy as a regular minor I would go with that.

Areca vestiaria.

Just kidding lol I know you asked for a Sabal but honestly drive down south to a Moon Valley in Dallas or something and pick up a big trunking Trachycarpus and a big trunking Rhapidophyllum and you'll probably do alright.  At those sizes you may not even have to protect in a mild winter.

LOL Dallas is twenty hours away from me if I could I would definitely drive down there, but ya, Trachy Most winters here could most likely survive just with a little help With protecting the spear, I don't grow any Trachy  Right now I only grow sabal miners and needle palms but I really want to get one soon

I live in Brownsville, TX (at the very bottom near Mexico) and am driving to Homestead, FL (23 hours one way) to get a few palms I can't find around here.  The addiction is real.

I've not been to Gary's but I've heard good things. 👍  I used to live in New Bern and it's a nice historical town.  Home of Pepsi Cola, but I prefer Coke!
