A nice afternoon for planting a few palms. Starting wa nice kerriodoxa from imported seed, followed by a chamaedorea microspadix grown from seed from the garden and a nice little vietcha joannas grow from seed collected in town as a door knock. The chamaedorea is basically jammed in between two rocks it will grow there they are tough palms. All palms were planted in the existing garden just to add to the collection.

You do a lot of hybrids, hybrid vigor is good for creating tough plants. Some plants do hybridise naturally, iam just not a fan of hybrids simply because in the future if we need a palm or plant that becomes exstinct in the wild. And humankind has mixed up the genetics, it’s a bit like gmo crops once it’s gone it’s gone. I appreciate the horticultural side and the knowledge involved in such work as gardener myself.

Hybrid vigour will give you more choice in palms for sure. And certainly create some beautiful palms not seen before. I have one hybrid palm in my garden a bottle cross spindle from Wantanna  summowongii and it is a beautiful palm.

Great selection of palms. The Microspadix I have is not near as prolific as the Radicalis. I have some seeds now that are just turning yellow . Last year I had quite a few but this year only a hand full . The seeds from last year are now little palms and I actually had some extra to hand out here on PT. These will go to a patient recipient that has been waiting for them to ripen. I guess they could’ve hybridized but I keep the species separated . The small and large ones have no variation to the parents that I can see. The original plants are quite old now so the offspring are many generations from the originals. Harry

Oh wow that is a beauty. Totally different than the parent plants nice palm I could be converted to plant hybrids, but I will leave the cross pollination work to the palm lovers.
