Golden cane cracks under weight

Recommended Posts

A bit of late storm damage with the old elk  taking on a bit weight with the rain, bringing down the golden cane stem it was attached too. An easy clean up the biggest problem is the weight of the elk and trying to remount it. I think an old tree stump will be the place for it.

That is a very large Elk to have to relocate but attaching it to a larger trunk it the only option. . It looks like it is quite heavy and the Lutescens was not near strong enough for that much weight. A tree stump might be the better choice. It was probably fine until it became soaked. Harry

It’s a monster of an elk had to get the tractor to lift it into a stump. The only disappointment is the blue faced honey eaters nested in there each season for about 10 years I got to know the whole family of birds. They use facial recognition so they got quite used to me now they have to find a new place to nest. The weight of the water and the seeds forming didn’t help it out. I might remove the other stem and plant something better there in the way of an another exotic palm. Who knows what to plant I have so many new varieties.

The Elk can’t be divided somehow? I didn’t know Dypsis could be moved until I was visiting the Sullivan house . Pauline’s grand son moved a waist high Decipiens and it did well , so far. Harry

Im guessing this is a single plant as I don’t think P. superbum produces pups.

There just single plants the stag can be divided easily. But very easy to grow from spore.

No divisions from this one are possible spore only. Most palms transplant well some won’t survive regardless but it is possible. I recently dug up 5 joeys two surviving well but I think the set back will be with  them for the rest of there lives.
