Hi I am new to this palm tree plant. I believe this is a majest palm? If I am wrong can someone please share the correct name. I was told by the associate of the place that I bought my plant from that this particular long stem may have been a broken leaf. But the more I examined it the more I’m not sure so I am asking for clarification if this is a new leaf sprouting.

It looks like a majesty palm, a picture of the whole palm would help and yes, it is a new spear forming.

Hi thank you for responding. I did add at the bottom a full picture! Is the name majesty palm and Elephant Palm the same? Another app I used gave me that name and the name Areca? But okay that’s awesome that it’s a new spear I was worried. From your Point of view does the spear look okay and should I do anything to it ? Also do you know how long it will take for it to sprout?

Yes, it is a majesty palm. I’m not sure what an elephant palm is, but I’m assuming it to be Beaucarnea recurvata, or ponytail palm, which is not palm. The spear is fine, it should open up within a few weeks or so.

Hello , welcome to Palm Talk. Yes it is a Majesty Palm , true name Ravenea Rivularis . As a house plant it will want bright indirect light and very good draining soil with a sandy loam and regular watering but not soggy . I think it could benefit from an afternoon on a shady patio now and then with a nice breeze and temperature over 60f. Don’t let dust build up on the fronds , a rinse down when you take it outside for a breather will help. To me they are much better outdoors in mild weather . Where you are it will have to be protected in cold weather , they can handle short periods of cold but I wouldn’t push it into freezing temps. They are from Madagascar and do well in warm temperate climates. Harry
