Majesty Palm - Middle GA

HELP PLEASE!  I am in middle Georgia and know nothing about palms. My wife planted this majesty palm right in front of the house. Do i need to dig it up and move it or can we keep it trimmed back to where it won’t get too big? Will the roots eventually damage our foundation? Please give me some insight. Thank y’all. I hate to be the party pooper but your tropical palm tree won't even make it that far this year. It will get toasted whenever you see your first frost without good protection.  They don't like temperatures below 40F .

Welcome to Palmtalk!  @MarcusH is correct that you probably won't have to worry about the palm growing too large in your climate.  They get frond damage at 32°F but are pretty bud hardy down to the mid 20's.  They make terrible houseplants but you can keep alive for several years by protecting it during extreme freezes or dig it out and keep it in a container outside and move it indoors during freezes.  As far as the roots damaging your foundation - they won't.  Palms are not like oaks or pines and their roots aren't aggressive.  There are other palm choices that would do better in your climate (mostly fan palms) but possibly Butia odorata would do OK depending on where you are in middle Georgia.

Thank you for the info. I think I will put it in a big pot and bring it in during freezing temps. We’ll see how long we can keep that going
