Nice recovery.

Sorry to be off topic. Was wondering if your trachy(s) are/or about to bloom.  I got about 7 spathes which will soon be ready for some pollen.

Oh wow your palm bounced back quick it looks really good what did you use to protect it in the winter ?

The second pic was from last summer. This is what it looks like after 5 degrees this winter. It completely defoliated, but new growth is healthy.

I didn’t protect anything, but I do believe in hindsight that some light protection would have gone a long way. My trachys all had some degree of burn, but they all are growing well now. IMG_0097.thumb.jpeg.d03896aeb476ca9d195da252f63ecb34.jpeg

@Ltapia thank you for the kind words. Everything looked much healthier last year at this time. I have tried a few different options over the years, but I am currently using a 6-4-6 in-house slow release palm fertilizer that I got from Osuna Nursery.

@Ltapia Congrats! It should be smooth sailing. The new growth will be stunted for the first couple of months, but it should be closer to normal by late summer. I like the collection in the pic below!

Nice!

Sometimes the opening where the spear pushes thru, collapses, or becomes constricted.  Especially on younger ones that go through major freezes.  I think the leaf bases freeze(expand), die, dry out, and stays in that slightly expanded state.  It hinders the smooth push of a new spear.

So I think what you did is best in most of those likewise situations.

By June, you won't even notice! And no damage to the trunk, because you did not cut "trunk".

Need a buyer for a filifera or two?
