Some healthy metallicas Lovin the deep shade. I even managed to hand pollinate and get a few seeds. These ones are about 23 years old and are part of the original garden I planted.

Absolutely stunning examples . My very old Metallica get a bit of morning sun so just a bit of burnt corners . Yours are perfection. Harry

One of my favorite species. A nursery near me used to sell large plants of these but I missed my chance to buy one. They would do well in my greenhouse

I had 2 in pots that I bought in Melbourne in 1985,  I planted them in 2015 when they got too tall for the old porch. At just over 2 metres I thought they were the record holders but Robyn at Rob's Rare Palms offered me a 3 metre one from her shade house when she closed the nursery. We bent, twisted and wriggled every which way but it was just too tall fit into my car. My new ones don't like me at all.  They've been here 18 months now and just hit the 10cm mark.

I came. I saw. I purchased

27.35 south.

Warm subtropical, with occasional frosts.

I love them so easy to grow. I put a few in the other day. I once purchased 1000 seeds wish I could get a thousand seeds now. They yellow a bit in sunlight and will burn in direct sun.

You could have put it on the roof, or even better out the window like a fishing rod. Where there is a will there’s a way. They are slow paced growers that are in for the long haul in the garden. Just add shade and water.

My motto is if you see a plant you always wanted buy it no matter the cost. You may never see that plant for sale again. There out there to buy but quite rare you have to look for them and you only come across them now and then, not a chain store palm that’s for sure.

I don’t know if I told you how I got mine . Pretty much what you are saying . I didn’t really pay attention to C. Metallica , wasn’t sure I would even want one , much less 3 individual squat pots with 4 stems about 4’ tall in each pot. I was at a nursery , looking around . It was a small place by the college in Ventura , run by a lovely woman with a very eclectic taste in pottery and plants . She knew I was a bit of a palm nut as I had already gotten a sick Rhapis from her that I brought back from the dead. She told me they were closing the nursery and would I be interested in some of her private stash … the three pots of Metallica. I would have to buy all three pots . It was $75 or $25 each pot ….. and I was in a very small car at the time , similar to @peachy ‘s predicament. Before I really thought about it , “yes” popped out of my mouth! I handed the nice lady the $ and spent half an hour getting them in my car without breaking the stems or defoliating them. I got home and unloaded them into the lath house at our old home. My wife asked what the….? Her sister was getting into palms so one would go to her as a gift , “ can I please keep the other two?” I really didn’t fancy getting rid of them . I still have them and are now huge , maybe 5’ tall or 6 1/2’ including the pots . Harry

Smart move and a wise decision that has given many years of joy. And another clever move was giving one to the wife’s sister smoothing over the whole deal in one hit. Hand them to the grandchildren for future generations to admire grandads wisdom in plants.
