At the Townsville Palmetum there is a clump of Bactris species growing in water.

If anyone can identify it that would be great as I was able to get some seed which germinated. The seed is 20-25mm long.

It looks like a clump that is growing at the Mt Cootha botanical Gardens in Brisbane. This is unnamed also. But it is growing good in much dryer soil and is sparcer in its clumping habit. Maybe because it is in shade.

Almost looks like Bactris major from the description in the Palms of the Americas guide.

Tim is right Its Bactris major variety infesta. Its not one that you would really wan’t growing in your garden unless you wanted to keep something out of your yard!
